ABOUT US

Welcome to the Zeta Pi Chapter web site. Zeta Pi is in Region 3 of Sigma Theta Tau International and is located at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing.

The Sigma Theta Tau International chapter at the University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston began as a subchapter of Alpha Delta Chapter at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. At that time there were 6 nursing schools forming the University of Texas System School of Nursing (UTSON) with each having a subchapter of Alpha Delta. In the spring of 1974, the UTSON at Houston graduated the first class of BSN students and held the first STTI induction. In 1976 the UTSON was dissolved with the individual schools being incorporated into their local campus and the subchapters of Alpha Delta began the process of becoming separate chapters.

The chartering ceremony for the Zeta Pi Chapter at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston was held on May 14, 1982 at the Doctor’s Club in the Texas Medical Center. Sister Rosemary Donnely, who was then the Past-President of Sigma Theta Tau International, was the chartering officer for the chapter. At that induction, there were 109 transferring members (mainly from the Alpha Delta subchapter) and 15 new members.
